DIY Citrus Toilet Bombs – Same Clean, Less Toxins!

Alright alright.

We all know that no one enjoys cleaning the toilet.

It’s one of those duties that needs to be done no matter how we feel about it.

The toilet just doesn’t care about our feelings.

Since it’s common to clean the toilet weekly I have come up with a DIY recipe that does not contain harmful toxins.

If you look at the ingredients in Comet or standard toilet bowl cleaner, it’s not a pretty sight.

According to the Environmental Working Group EWG, tests found that Comet emitted 146 different chemicals.

Among those chemicals are formaldehyde, benzene, chloroform, and toluene. Which are not even listed on the label.

Scray right?

I will forever say goodbye to Comet and say hello to my DIY Citrus Toilet Bombs.

There are only two main ingredients that make this recipe.

Baking soda and citric acid.

I would, in a heartbeat, rather clean with baking soda and citric acid over formaldehyde and chloroform.

Since citrus aromas add the feeling of cleanliness, I thought it would be fun to use lemon and sweet orange essential oils in this recipe.

They smell so good it almost hurts to use them for the toilet!’

I like to store my DIY Citrus Toilet Bombs in a glass container for easy access.

Below I have included free labels that you can download, print, and use for your storage containers.

  • I included 2 different sizes depending on the size of jar you plan on using.
  • I use these Avery Full Sheet Stickers for all of my handmade health & beauty products.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Baking Soda
  • 1/4 cup Citric Acid
  • 20 drops Lemon Essential Oil
  • 20 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil
  • 10-12 spritz of Water
  • Silicone Mold

Directions

Mix together the baking soda and citric acid.

Add 20 drops of lemon essential oil and mix.

Add 20 drops of sweet orange essential oil and mix.

Fill a spray bottle with water and spray 2 times into your mixture.

Mix.

Repeat until you hit around 10-12 sprays of water and mix after every 2 sprays.

You will know that there is enough water when you are able to grab the mixture with your hand and it’s able to hold form, not falling apart. Avoid spraying too much or it will start to fizz. Think of it as slightly dampening the mixture.

Press the mixture into your silicone mold firmly pressing down any corners or sides.

Let dry overnight for about 12 hours.

Turn the silicone mold over and carefully pop out your toilet bombs.

Place your DIY Citrus Toilet Bombs in an airtight container and add my free printable label.

Grab a bomb whenever it’s toilet cleaning time, drop in the toilet bowl, and after it’s down fizzing you are good to clean.

I love the way these make my bathroom smell afterward.

So fresh and clean!
